Jim Troughton

Jim TroughtonJim Troughton's emergence as a player of the very highest class has been a gift to punsters and headline-writers across the country - rarely a day goes by without reference to his grandfather, Patrick, who starred as Dr Who on BBC Television in the 1960s. But judging by the power and range of his strokeplay, Troughton looks equally at ease on the big stage. He is primarily a front-foot and strong off-side player, as shown during a blazing 33-ball cameo for Warwickshire in the very last Benson & Hedges final in 2002, but he is equally adept at tucking the stray delivery off his legs for four. He plays with no fear of failure and his attacking approach allows no bowler to settle into a rhythm - even if they do remain hopeful of a lapse in concentration. His early development at Warwickshire took place in the shadow of Ian Bell, who was called into England's Test squad in New Zealand aged 19, but Troughton is now ready to assume centre stage.
