Ed Joyce

Ed Joyce
England and Middlesex top-order batsman.

An Irishman with ambitions to play at the very highest level, Ed Joyce has been an important part of Middlesex's middle-order since his debut in 1999. A left-handed batsman standing at 5ft 11ins, he has been a prolific run-scorer at county level, and stood in as captain in 2004 after Owais Shah was relieved of the post due to disappointing results. Born in Dublin, and from a large family with four brothers and four sisters, Joyce was a star for Ireland at ICC Trophy level, scoring 758 runs in 14 matches between 2001 and 2005, at an average of 84.22. In the 2005 tournament he was invaluable to the cause, racking up two hundreds and two more fifties in five innings, to ensure qualification for the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean. In the tournament itself, however, Joyce turned out in the blue and red of England. He completed his residency qualification in 2005, and secured his passage with a composed century against Australia at Sydney, as England came back from the dead to win the CB Series.
